Born January 6, 1960, in Cheyenne, Oklahoma.

Lucas was elected in a special election May 10, 1994, to complete the term of Glenn English, who resigned from the seat he had held since 1975.

Lucas went on to defeat his Democratic opponent, giving Oklahoma's congressional delegation partisan balance for the first time ever. It was the first time the Democrats weren't in the majority since 1921-23.

At the time of his election, Lucas was in his third term as a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Lucas is a fifth-generation Oklahoman who operates a cattle ranch in western Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1982.

He and his wife, Lynda, have three children: Jessica, Ashlea, and Grant.
